Gliwice is a Silesian town, well designed, green, with miles of well maintained parks, probably the most green city in the Metropolitan Silesia. Gliwice is sophisticated, due to the higher education schools (Politechnika Gliwicka), institutes, as well as cultural imprint, well organized and maintained. Old Town Gliwice, with picturesque narrow streets, Village Hall, all of that illustrate the vision of the past, good taste, thoughtful design, as well as present generations, despite visible neglect, inflicted during past political, systemic era.
Until now. Gliwice is probably one of the few examples in the world, where, virtually, town will be divided by new expressway, running from one breakfast table to another, from one lunch to another, from one dinner celebration to the next dinner celebration, 24/7/365 days a year, traffic will run in the middle of your table, dear people of Gliwice. I wrote about it few years ago. Construction is progressing, digging deeper into the Earth crust, high speed IT, as well as deepening crisis, with regard to eco-oriented society, noise pollution, quality of life, etc.
Why in the world in the middle of the city. Perhaps there is some logic, yet, I don’t see it, even if local business will flourish, business with big “B”, because small shops are disappearing quickly.
