Poland wants an honest share in Iraq oil fields.
With admirable — if ruthless — honesty, Polish Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimioszewicz openly declared that his nation joined the Anglo-American crusade against Iraq for one purpose only: a share of the plunder from the conquered country’s oil fields.
“We have never hidden our desire for Polish oil companies to finally have access to sources of commodities,” the minister told a group of Polish magnates gathered to sign an agreement allowing them to join the corporate hunting packs from the United States and Britain in tearing off chunks of the Iraqi carcass. Indeed, access to Iraq’s oilfields “is our ultimate objective,” Cimioszewicz told.
“Our decisions were not taken on the basis of tactical considerations,” Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz said last month during a speech at Columbia University. “We were not calculating what we can win from this or that choice.
“We did not expect to make political profits or economic gains. The decision to support the invasion of Iraq was mainly based on our understanding of the true meaning of alliance and solidarity.”
Still, Cimoszewicz said, they appreciate the benefits – political, economic and otherwise – of forging a military partnership with the United States.
“The Polish support to the military action against Saddam Hussein and our role in the stabilization process in Iraq gained us true friends in Washington,” Cimoszewicz said. “Although these decisions in Poland were not easy to take, they proved to be the right ones.”
Cargo plane could carry $2.4 billion in shrink-wrapped bricks of $100 bills. They sent an initial full planeload of cash, followed by 20 other flights to Iraq by May 2004 in a $12-billion haul that U.S. officials believe to be the biggest international cash airlift of all time.
This month, the Pentagon and the Iraqi government are finally closing the books on the program that handled all those Benjamins. But despite years of audits and investigations, U.S. Defense officials still cannot say what happened to $6.6 billion in cash — enough to run the Los Angeles Unified School District or the Chicago Public Schools for a year, among many other things.
For the first time, federal auditors are suggesting that some or all of the cash may have been stolen, not just mislaid in an accounting error. Stuart Bowen, special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, an office created by Congress, said the missing $6.6 billion may be “the largest theft of funds in national history.”
The sole beneficiary on 43 of the 89 contracts was a former currency-exchange operator, Nair Mohamed al-Jumaili, whose name doesn’t even appear on the contracts. At least $759 million in Iraqi money was deposited into his personal account at a bank in Baghdad, according to the report. Internal records incorrectly “indicated that the Ministry of Defense signed contracts with Poland, Arab countries, the United States and Europe, but we discovered that all contracts were signed and executed with Iraqi suppliers,” the report said.
While many of the contracts did result in useful, if overpriced, equipment for Iraq’s 80,000 new troops, contracts involving shoddily refurbished helicopters from Poland, crates of loose ammunition from Pakistan and a fleet of leak-prone armored personnel carriers were among purchases that now are deemed unnecessary or unusable.
Cattan, a dual Polish-Iraqi national, was fired in May and a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with “the abuse of an employer’s funds.” He fled Baghdad and hasn’t returned to answer the charges.
Even the “coalition of the willing” partners have been quick to cash in. Polish helicopters purchased as part of a $300 million deal with arms maker Bumar Ltd. were found to be obsolete, largely unflyable, and were actually rejected by the Iraqis. Bullets purchased from Poland by the Defense Ministry cost three times the normal international price. Five Polish peacekeepers have been arrested for demanding $90,000 in bribes.
Responding to complaints, company refused to permit independent auditing and inspected itself using so-called “Tiger Teams.” One such team stayed at the five-star Kuwait Kempinski Hotel while it was doing its audit, running up a bill of more than $1 million that was passed on to U.S. taxpayers.

Recently I’ve found information about involvement of Polish WSI in Sept 11 attacks. The New York Times published an article (Nov 2001) stating that reorganization of WSI is linked with a plot. Polish operational officers clearly indicate the scheme along with former Pres. Kwasniewski. Today an article disappeared form the Internet, or at least, I could not find it.
It’s obvious that international clandestine community was behind 911 attacks, plan implemented since 1970’s, when the World Trade Center was built.
It is sad, that Polish elites did not informed citizens about the affair, which resulted in so much suffering and damages, which extended into the war in Iraq, Afghanistan and unprecedented corruption, unprecedented in scale and scope. Ugly truth about fragmentation of Polish elites. Unthinkable and hurtful realization, that anyone on this land could cause so much havoc, deaths, damages.
What is important to notice, that no one have said even one word of criticism and warning, governing political parties, opposition, young and old. Certainly there is a quite number of people in Poland, in all backgrounds within society, which are aware about the affair. Not one word, not one apology to the victims, not one remorse, not one. Social degradation of moral fabric at its worst.
People certainly are afraid, yet, there never will be an agreement, permission toward crimes against humanity, anywhere, anytime.
I don’t know how this affairs will unfold, truth is sweeped under the rug, yet, sooner or later it will, at the cost of good name of Poles and the region, emerge.
Tragic, indeed, and so unfair to the innocent people, who are at risk of infamy and for what, for money, blood money, which did not help those, who should get an assistance and essential services, and even Poles, expelled by millions, by decision makers from all backgrounds.
I feel violated by those people, as many would be, and surely will. I feel violated, as any person would be, violated innocence.

Mark J. Wagner After posting my comments, invigilation is heating up. Yesterday, while in my route (at 7:05pm) to the nearby park, I’ve seen lady sweeping ER van (3968). At the park someone wrote: 3968 we will kill you as we did with your father. At the same location, while returning from the park, where van was located, a blond, young woman was driving very fast by bike. In addition I came back with a severe leg pain.
For years, those who maintain invigilation, are doing everything they can, to prevent me from leaving an apartment.
The scheme and a sequence of sirens at the key places, encountering all kinds gestures and comments, its all part of the invigilation, along with frequencies, and even sleeplessness caused by strange noise or vibrations. Once you use ear stoppers, a normal cycle is restored, along with sleep.
